As a privileged white woman who has had access to opportunities and education without even thinking about it as privilege, I acknowledge I have been blind to the barriers and trauma faced by Black, Indigenous and People of Colour.
I was sadly awakened to the inequity in this world by the fact that women of colour do not receive the same amount of care while having a baby due to unconscious racial bias. I was deeply moved by the story of Kira Dixon Johnson — a story that revealed how the absence of protocol in childbirth care costs lives, disproportionately the lives of Black women.
"Many hospitals lack policies and protocols to prevent unconscious bias, particularly in the maternity ward. There actually is a solution. Those systems and those protocols exist for most things in medicine. There is no protocol for childbirth. And they would have saved Kira if there had been."
— Amy Holden Jones, Co-Creator, The ResidentIn 2021, the maternal mortality rate among Black women was nearly 70 deaths for every 100,000 live births — that is 2.6 times the rate for white women, regardless of income or education.
And when I witnessed the tragic murder of George Floyd in May 2020, I was angered at the racial injustice that caused his death. The thought of me not using my white privilege to stand up and be a voice for change — when I actually have a place of power to do something — made me feel like a powerless onlooker. I am no longer that.
I am no longer a silent onlooker. I am an active participant in racial justice and the antiracist actions that need to happen immediately.
I believe in a world of connection, growth and understanding — to have equal opportunities for all human beings, regardless of their education, culture, ethnicity, race, sex, gender identity and expression, nation of origin, age, languages spoken, veteran's status, colour, religion, disability, sexual orientation and beliefs.
At Intuitive Heart Training Academy, our mission is to give every human being the resources and resourcefulness to have choice in creating their future how they want to. We uphold our values in respecting everyone's map of the world and continue to celebrate diversity and equal opportunities.
I am committed to building a business that is racially diverse, equitable and inclusive. I will do this by making sure my services deliver on these values with my student and client experience.
I commit to ongoing donations to marginalised groups and to spend my money mindfully on businesses where it benefits women of colour where I can. I make sure I continue to be educated — such as learning and receiving feedback from Racial Equity Coach, Annie Gichuru.
I know there are times I will make mistakes because I am human and on a journey to unlearn and re-learn. I'm dedicated to doing better.

Upholding equal opportunities for all human beings regardless of education, culture, ethnicity, race, sex, gender identity and expression, nation of origin, age, languages spoken, disability, sexual orientation and beliefs.
